Parking Trials for Port St Mary

Port St Mary Commissioners and Department of Infrastructure Highways Division are working together to review how best to improve the parking provision within Port St Mary in order that it may be best managed for both residents and businesses in the future.

When the existing disc zones were created, there were a significantly higher number of businesses in the lower end of the Port which has effectively now led to Residential Disc Zones being created. There are currently 91 residents parking permits issued within the village for use within these zones, whilst the last census suggested that there are over 1,300 cars & vans within the village.

Port St Mary Commissioners has agreed a proposal by Department of Infrastructure Highways Division that a trial is conducted in which the short term disc zones within the Port are reviewed and restricted to the current zones in the retail area of Bay View Road and outside the Town Hall, during daylight hours, in order to encourage turnover of parking spaces within this vicinity. The area along Bay View Road where disc zones will remain for this trial is approximately between the traffic lights outside Scoill Phurt le Moirrey and the start of the Double Yellow Lines outside Lighthouse Buildings. The remaining disc zones within the Port will be removed for this trial, which if successful, could potentially lead to residents parking permits being phased out in favour of longer term parking restrictions within clearly identified areas where vehicles may be left for longer periods.

Both Port St Mary Commissioners and the Department of Infrastructure Highways Division would welcome your views and suggestions. If you wish to contact the DOI directly please do so via email to Networkplanning.DOI@gov.im.
